Channel storage racking systems
A channel storage system is a type of compact warehouse in which multiple unit loads (pallets) are positioned one behind the other in the individual channels. In this case operations are only carried out from the front as the individual tasks are carried out in the channels by what are known as shuttle vehicles. Direct access to the storage locations is not an option with this system.
In comparison to standard racking with one load unit per compartment, channel storage systems have a greater packing density as the part by volume is lower for operating aisles. They are often used in refrigerated warehouses where the area to be refrigerated needs to be as small as possible and have a high degree of volume usage. In comparison to conveyor shelves, and dolly systems, you have the benefit of no moving parts in the racking, except for the shuttle vehicle.
SSI SCHAEFER has many years of experience in constructing channel storage systems all around the world. From planning through to implementation with our in-house steel construction, we deliver all services from one single source.

Shuttle solutions in a channel storage system
The Schaefer Orbiter System - a combined storage and transport system - uses a simple working principle to ensure highly efficient goods provision with a relatively low level of automation and a correspondingly transparent investment. In addition, with this system you create the optimal prerequisites for a future-oriented, flexible and modern intralogistics solution in your plant.
Shuttle systems from SSI SCHAEFER:
- Optimisation of the life cycle costs
- Optimisation of the resources used
- Handling costs per pallet are much lower than with traditional systems
- From planning to processing and maintenance. We provide support throughout your project and consider ourselves your partner
